Next Generations

A new problem

In a world with increasing pressures and stresses, tied in with the loss of connection with the natural world, children are experiencing depression, anxiety, and other health issues on an unprecedented level.

The recent turbulence of the pandemic has shown that children are struggling to manage school workloads, experiencing social anxiety and turning to maladaptive coping mechanisms from a very young age.

Children need more support than ever in learning how to navigate difficult thoughts, emotions and life situations in order to be well in all areas.

Benefits:

- Increased compassion, empathy and resilience

- Increased capacity for attention, focus, memory and classroom participation

- Increased self-esteem, confidence and ability to resolve conflict

- Increased sense of inner peace, calmness and overall wellbeing

- Decreased levels of stress, anxiety, fear and disruptive behaviour

A new way

Mindfulness is being alert to what is happening at the present moment. This includes being tuned in to one's senses, and regarding things and situations with an open mind, rather than 'black and white thinking'.

Using mindfulness techniques such as breathing, meditation, journalling and yoga, I teach children the tools to relate better with challenging or uncomfortable moments, and as they practice, they build confidence in their ability to meet the stresses of the world with presence, self-compassion and openness. It's an opportunity for them to build self-awareness; being able to recognise their thoughts, emotions and patterns and how to react in positive ways.

The lessons are structured to be fun and engaging, with various activities to help the children develop their skills in ways that suit their learning needs.
